Chapter 6
Mewt
Silence slowly woke up. The sun was just rising and a single ray of light illuminated the dim lighted room. He looked to his left with weary eyes. He saw Eco asleep in a chair. She watched me all night didn't she? he asked himself as he slowly got up. Pain hit his body, and he stopped and slowly fell back into the bed.
"You shouldn't move around," a deep voice came to him. "You'll further injure yourself." Silence looked in the door way of the room and saw Robert.
Silence didn't answer and closed his eyes. Robert spoke once more. "I'll bring breakfast in a few minutes. You just rest." He turned and walked out of the door way.
Silence opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. He felt helpless and useless. He didn't like it. He tried to move again, the pain seemed worse, but he managed to sit up. He looked out the window and watched the sun-rise.
Eco woke at the same time Robert brought the food in. "FOOD!!" she said excitedly and almost knocked Silences tray out of Roberts's hand. She inhaled her food and gave the tray back to Robert.
"Did you taste the food?" Robert asked sharply and walked out of the room.
"Hay, how are you?" she asked Silence.
"Well," he started, "almost got killed by a chimera, got half my body burned, had a nightmare last night, I'd say I'm doing pretty well!" he said with a sense of announce.
"Well sorry!" Eco shot back. She stood up and started to walk out of the room.
"Wait!" Silence said. "Where are we?" Silence looked under his sheet, he had no clothes, and some parts of his fur where burned off. His waist to his toes were covered with bandages. "And where are my clothes and weapons?"
"Well," she began, "we're at some guy's house. He saw us after the fight and invited us in. The entire town is looking for us now so he's letting us stay until things die down and you get better." She then walked out of the room.
Silence thought of this for a moment. I don't know anyone here, he thought. Who is this guy? He continues to meditate on this until a young man, no older than Silence, stepped into the room. He wore a large brown coat with long sleeved shirt under it, and jeans. Silence eyed him, as he set something down on the chair Eco had been sitting on. "You need to heal," he said simply as he turned to walk out of the room. He stopped in the doorway and without turning he said, "My name is Mewt." And then he walked out.
Silence looked at the object Mewt had set down. It was wrapped in a tan cloth but he could tell what it was. His swords, his clothes lay below them.
Finally, the day came that the three Blood Mutants would leave the town. A week passed since the chimera and Silence was healing quickly. He found that the caravan he had been leading had left with another guide. The chimera's remains were now completely removed from the town and no one was looking for the blood mutants anymore. Mewt would come and go to get food and supplies but mainly he stayed to himself.
"Finally we are leaving!!" Silence said. "I can't take this small, cramped house anymore." He looked to Mewt. "No offence!" Mewt just continued to load food and supplies on to four horses he had given them.
He walked over to Mewt, he limped a little as he did. He stopped just short of the door so he wouldn't be seen by the villagers. "I can't thank you enough for all that you have done." Mewt didn't say anything and strapped another settle bag on to a horse. Silence looked at the fourth horse. "Hay, Mewt? What's the fourth horse for? I don't see any extra supplies on it."
Mewt finally stopped and turned to Silence. "As payment for my hospitality to you, you will take me with you." After he said this he continued to load.
Silences eyes widened. "You can't be serious! I can't take you to-"
Silence stopped before he revealed Haven to a non-blooded. "I mean, don't you think it would be strange to have a non-blooded person hanging around a-"
Mewt swiftly turned around and with unnatural speed and tore off his large coat. The coat floated to the ground as three bushy gray furred tail fell from behind him. Silence was stunned. Mewt then knelt down on one knee and took off his large boots. The revealed to Silence fox-like paws, similar to his own. Mewt then rolled up his sleeves; black fur rose up his arm just above the wrists. Silence was dumbstruck, and at the same time, amused. "It's only a matter of time before the townsfolk would realize what I truly am. I don't know the way to Haven, but Eco tells me you do."
"Wait," Silence said. "Eco knows that you're a blood mutant?"
"I told her a few days ago," Mewt replied.
"Why did you tell her and not me?!" Silence demanded.
"Because, she was nervous about me; I wanted her to trust me." He then put his boots back on, rolled his sleeves down, put his coat on, and went back to work.
